Lisa Kettle and Danielle Condron felt that Manchester’s Gay Village was missing a great place to dine within the locale’s thriving nightlife scene – so the successful restauranteurs have stepped up the local food scene with No.1 Canal Street, serving a contemporary take on traditional British flavours.
Couple Lisa and Danielle have been successfully running The Bridge Pub and Dining in Sale before the launch of No.1 Canal Street.
Residing in the former Bandit, Mugger & Thief site, the venue has had a stunning renovation, with walls stripped back to red brick. We were commissioned to create chairs and armchairs and install fitted seating and booths in bold coloured Sunbury Design upholstery.
The vision for the restaurant was to create a relaxed dining experience, moving into a bit more energy in the evening. Co-owner Lisa said, “Soft furnishings, bright, airy – a real female feel to it compared to what’s been down the canal before. I think that’s the difference; very soft rather than these crazy drink offers. It’s going to step it up a little bit.”
